Manufactured Item Labels

Situation
Customer had been using a silver metalized polyester label that had been static printed with their logo and a box for "Mfg. Date". They hand stamped the date each item was manufactured. Wanted to move to barcoding, but also needed duplicates of the serial number to place on outside of box and travel with paperwork until final assembly had been complete.
Solution
We duplicated the look of their original label and added a serialized barcode where Mfg Date had been. We added to the bottom of the overall size of the label to create a secondary set of labels with 3 additional barcodes and die cut labels. We printed this on our digital press due to the detail of their logo and PMS color matching. In-line and on-press we die cut the original label and die cut the 3 additional labels, but left the matrix around the lower 3 labels. At the same time we cut a series of back-scores. The finished label had their original label look to place on the product and it left them with 3 additional labels with matching serial numbers. One to place immediately on the outside of the box. The other 2 had a back-score in the liner that when removed exposed a slight amount of adhesive around the outside edge of this matrix surrounding the last 2 labels. This whole square was attached to the box because it would often travel for several days before it would be completed for final assembly. At that point they would remove the last 2 labels off the liner and attach to paperwork and warranty.
Summary
By combining digital print capabilities and engineering Barcodes West was able to duplicate a flexo printed product label, add serialized barcodes, and create duplicates that could be applied to boxes and paperwork down the line. This allowed them to track movement, manufacturing dates, original materials, and warranty information with a single serial number.
We have done "duplicate" labels for many customers - having the same tracking, unique serial number to place on a product and on matching paperwork or boxes is used in many manufacturing segments.
